It maybe possible to steer Hurricanes ever so slightly and thus allow us to prevent them from hitting one of our major cities causing hundreds of billions of dollars in damages and killing thousands of people. How so you ask? Well by using high-energy lasers to super heat the ocean surface we can coax a Hurricane towards a new path. Some scientists and weather researchers decry this idea, because it means adding more power to the virtual heat engine of the Hurricane, but if we can get it to miss a Galveston, Long Island, Miami or Tampa Bay it would still be worth it in the long run. It is for this reason that this topic came up in an online think tank recently when one guest member stated; "This is a fabulous concept. How in the WORLD could hurricane's be "directed"?.The concept is somewhat simple coat the surface of the ocean in the Hurricanes Path with a reactionary but dissolvable chemical that would react with a CO2 or Argon High-Energy Laser and then shoot the ocean with the United States Air Force's newest high-energy laser 747 and super heat the ocean surface temps.
Perhaps we could even turn the Hurricane around or make its eye-wall expand during an eye-wall replacement period and the system would temporarily collapse and the speeds would drop drastically. Should we consider this in 2006?.
